Six-footer waves break over the beaches as southerly winds bring cool change

Four to six-foot waves broke over the beaches on Saturday, as strong south-southwesterly winds blew in bringing cooler temperatures and light showers over the city in the afternoon.

The cloudy conditions are likely to stick around on Sunday, with a hazardous surf warning in place over the weekend.

Surf and swell conditions are expected to be hazardous for coastal activities such as rock fishing, boating, and swimming along the Hunter, Sydney and Illawarra coastlines, as well as in the state's north.

The chance of light showers on Sunday, with maximums of 18 degrees.
