Six Edinburgh businesses still open during lockdown that may surprise you

Mainland Scotland is currently under a strict lockdown meaning that all non-essential businesses and shops must close down to try and tackle the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Today the rules around what is considered essential have been tightened again with ski centres, showrooms of larger retailers and clinics offering cosmetic and aesthetic procedures required to close.

But there are some businesses in Edinburgh which are still open despite the restrictions, that may just surprise you - as well as a number of businesses that you may not have realised are actually classed as essential.

Herbalists

While not everyone may see herbalists as essential, for others they are a lifeline. Herbalists are still operating in Edinburgh with D Atkinson confirming on Twitter that they are open as an "essential service." Napier's Herbalist has also been listed on Google as open during this time.

Holland and Barrett who sell herbal supplements alongside vitamins are also still open and operating throughout the capital.

D Atkinson wrote online: "As an essential service we are OPEN during #lockdown PPE, distancing and sanitising are all in place in our shop."

The Bike Station

The Bike Station in Edinburgh who recycle and refurbish donated bikes have confirmed that they are allowed to stay open during lockdown after being considered "essential".

They wrote on Twitter: "We are happy to announce that bike shops are considered essential and we will remain open during the current lockdown."
