Six ambassadors to take part in first Belfast marathon

Six ambassadors have joined the Mash Direct Belfast City Marathon as part of the “2022 Ruby Runners” group.

The Ruby Runners have been selected to take part in a very special 40th anniversary year of the event, training for their first ever marathon in Belfast on Sunday, May 1.

With around 16 weeks to go, the Ruby Runners can expect a very comprehensive marathon training package from the event’s official sponsors.

This includes a marathon training plan, monthly bespoke strength and fitness classes/assessments and a three-month citywide gym membership from Better (Official Gym Sponsor).

Athletics Northern Ireland are providing a six-month membership and complimentary entry to their Titanic Quarter 10K event.

The group will receive a full training kit, plus a Podium 4 Sport voucher and gait analysis assessment to ensure each choose the best marathon footwear for them.

The Ruby Runners will also be supported on their marathon journey by experts Dr Gavin Breslin (Senior Lecturer in Psychology, Ulster University), Katie Kirk (the non-diet sports nutritionist) and Dr Aisling Diamond (Official Marathon Doctor), who are all contributing to the ambassador programme.

Not to mention goodies provided from title sponsor Mash Direct, including some of their nutritious vegetable ranges; Tayto with their Advantage Crispy Lites; and Four Star Pizza, who are set to reward the group with a well earned pizza voucher upon completion of their 26.2 miles.

But who are the lucky six embarking on this special marathon anniversary journey?

  • Richard Spratt from Comber

  • Naomi Gibson from Magheralin

  • Jonathan Atkinson from Bangor

  • Siobhan Gillespie from Belfast

  • Bryan Gourley from Antrim

  • Aoife Gribbin from Castledawson

All have chosen to run for the event’s Official Charity Partner, Cancer Focus Northern Ireland.

Participants this year are encouraged to be #StrongerTogether and run, walk or wheel for team Cancer Focus NI to help more people survive from cancer.

The Mash Direct Belfast City Marathon hopes that you will follow the Ruby Runners over the coming weeks and help motivate and cheer them on.
