Sir Gerhard's Cheltenham odds unchanged after debut chase victory

Sir Gerhard's Cheltenham odds remain unchanged despite picking up victory in his chasing debut on Thursday afternoon.

The Willie Mullins-trained horse took home the win in the 3.25 at Gowran Park, a race in which Sir Gerhard was the heavy favourite at 1/6.

Despite the win, Sir Gerhard remains at the same price for Cheltenham. At the time of writing, both Betfair and Paddy Power have kept the eight-year-old at 6/1 the Turner Novices' Chase and the Brown Advisory Novices Chase.

Furthermore, Paddy Power now has Sir Gerhard at 25/1 for the Arkle Chase.

While Sir Gerhard eventually won at Gowran Park by 38 lengths, the victory wasn't without drama as at the third fence, he jumped early, broke the fence and nearly unseated rider Paul Townend.

The next few fences were taken very cautiously as the chasing novince tried to regain his composure.

He came on strong over the last few fences to take advantage of a huge error from Henry de Bromhead trained Largy Debut to take home the win.

After the win, Willie Mullins chatted to RTE about the Cheltenham plans for Sir Gerhard.

""We'll take a chance and go there (Cheltenham). We'll probably look at the two and a half mile race or the three mile race.

"They'll be going that bit slower.and for an inexperienced horse it will give him a chance to measure his fences.

"Probably not as well represented in the three-mile one. So it may be edging that way.

"But who knows what will happen between now and then."
