David Moyes says Sir Alex Ferguson has been in touch to praise his West Ham side ahead of them taking on Manchester United on Saturday.
Former Old Trafford boss Moyes has led his side to fifth place in the Premier League this season, and they have one more point that his old club ahead of their visit to the London Stadium in front of 2,000 fans on Saturday evening.
It was Moyes who was infamously chosen as Ferguson's successor when the United legend left the club after 27 trophy-laden years in charge in 2013, only to fail to last until the end of the 2013/14 season.
Moyes says Ferguson remains a good friend, adding that he enjoyed his battles against him when he was in charge of Everton between 2002 and 2013.
“He texted me two weeks ago after a game we had to say how well he thought the team was doing. He thought we had played well in one of the games," said Moyes
"Sir Alex was always very good to me. He was very good to me at Manchester United. He is thought of so highly and at that time to replace him was a great honour for me.
"I look back at it with a lot of good memories but Sir Alex has always been supportive – and he is to football managers throughout the country. If any manager wanted advice from Sir Alex, he was always there.
"You could always fight with him – he was very feisty on the touchline and might fall out with you.
"But he always shook your hand and gave you a glass of wine and if you needed to phone him on anything, he would always be there for the phone call.”
