Sir Alex Ferguson admits Leeds United title credentials are impossible to ignore

Leeds United will always have a chance of upsetting the apple cart and winning major honours, according to Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Manchester United legend was the scourge of Elland Road for years as the leader of their great rivals and perennial champions.

However, there has always been a tone of begrudging respect from the Scot for what the Whites have in their ferocity, hostility and will to win.

In an interview with GQ to promote a new documentary about the retired manager, Ferguson has admitted Leeds will always have a chance of repeating Leicester City’s Premier League-winning feat in 2016.

That, in his eyes, is down to the one-club city background they have. In discussing his success with Aberdeen before moving to Old Trafford, Ferguson said an entire city pushing in one direction can be a powerful thing.

“The first year, we got to two finals,” he said of Aberdeen. “The next year, we won the league. And from that moment on, it was a great place to be. It’s a great city, Aberdeen.

“And I always think one-town teams have a chance. Like Leeds in Leeds, Leicester in Leicester. You've got a chance of having a whole city behind you.”
