Single Glasgow pub remains open to punters hell-bent on a visit to the boozer

Pubs in Glasgow and across the Central Belt have been shut for over a week now under measures applying to licensed premises aimed at tackling a surge in coronavirus cases.

Under the current restrictions, pubs, bars and restaurants in Glasgow and across the central belt of Scotland are to remain closed until at least a week on Monday - with Nicola Sturgeon 'uncertain' on when they will be permitted to re-open their doors to the public.

But thankfully, for Glaswegians hell-bent on a visit to the boozer, there's one pub that has remained open to welcome people in with open arms and remind everyone what the inside of a pub looks like.

And that pub is The Mitre Bar, located in the Riverside Museum's much-loved Victorian era street.

Unfortunately, as it is a museum exhibit, while it does recreate the genuine feel and atmosphere of a busy pub, the one thing missing is actual alcohol for punters to enjoy.

The pub brings back to life the iconic old pub The Mitre, which was a fixture on Brunswick Street in the Merchant City for almost 80 years before the building it occupied was demolished.

The pub, complete with original fittings, has been revived in Main Street, the museum’s recreation of seven shop units that occupied the city between 1895 and 1930.

And that's exactly where Glaswegians should head if they are missing visits to their local while the real pubs in the city remain shut!
