Sinead Kavanagh handed world title shot against Cris Cyborg at Bellator 271

Dublin's Sinead Kavanagh will fight for a world title next month as she faces reigning featherweight champion Cris Cyborg in the main event at Bellator 271.

Cyborg will put her title on the line for a third time at the event in Hollywood, Florida on November 12 in what will be the biggest fight of Kavanagh's career.

The Inchicore native has made no secret of her desire to challenge Cyborg, who arguably remains the top pound-for-pount fighter in mixed martial arts the age of 36.

Kavanagh is one a two-fight winning streak of her own, having seen off Olga Rubin of Russia and Katharina Lehner of Germany in the past two years.

The five-time former national champion amateur boxing champion has a record of 7-4-0 since turning professional in 2016.

Victory in Hollywood would make Kavanagh the first Irish champion in professional MMA since Conor McGregor surrendered his belts in 2018.

The Brazilian is not the fighter she was at her peak, when she held the UFC lightweight belt, but will still represent a big step up for 'KO' Kavanagh.

Cyborg has won each of her four bouts since losing that title to Amanda Nunes in 2018, three of which have come in the Bellator stable.

Her most recent win came at the expense of Leslie Smith at Bellator 259 in May, while Kavanagh hasn't fought since beating Lehner by unanimous decision last October.
