Simple email can save money and hassle on your holiday

A travel writer has revealed the simple trick she uses whenever she travels to save herself a fortune.

Lexi Alford, 21,  is the world record holder for being the youngest person to travel to every country, so she has picked up a few hacks to save money on your trip.

The latest trick involves a simple email sent to your hotel before you travel, reports The Mirror .

Lexi told  Bloomberg : "Taxi drivers can be merciless as far as screwing you over, so you need to be very sure on exactly how much it’s going to cost and how long it’s going to take to go from A to B.

"Email your hotel before you arrive and ask what the average price is for a taxi from the airport to the hotel.

"Sending this simple email has saved me hundreds of dollars over the years, because I’ve avoided being taken advantage of by taxi drivers with inflated prices or fixed meters."

Lexi said if the taxi fare is higher than you expected when you arrive you should refuse to pay and ask your hotel for help.

If the situation escalates threaten to call the police - which is the point where most dodgy taxi drivers will give up.
