Simon Murray signs on at Queen's Park for next season

Simon Murray signs on at Queen's Park for next season

SIMON MURRAY has agreed a one-year contract extension at Queen's Park.

The striker joined the Spiders in September 2020 and has played a major role in their rise up the leagues.

The former Dundee United, Hibs and Dundee attacker has played 40 games for the club, finishing top scorer in both seasons with a total of 16 goals.

He scored the winning penalty against Airdrieonians in the Championship play-off final to help secure promotion for Queen's Park.

And Murray will now be there as Owen Coyle's side aim to compete at the top end of Scotland's second tier.

Murray said: "I am delighted to extend my stay at the club. They have supported me since coming back and now I am looking forward to pre season and the challenge ahead.

"We have had great success in the last two years and now hopefully we can build on that. Thank you for all your support.”

Coyle added: "In the last part of the season, Simon has showed the important role in a team he can have.

"Not only with causing danger and scoring, but also his involvement in pressing is of a high quality.

"That will be an important thing in the way of playing we are looking for.”

Director of football Marijn Beuker commented: "We are very happy with the re-signing of Simon Murray.

"Simon is very skillfull, focused on the goal and a real athlete. Simon has made an impression in multiple Scottish competitions in recent seasons and when he is fully fit, he is one of the better strikers in the competition.

"Also important is that Simon with all his experience will be a good inspiration for the young prospects that will play more and more in our first team.”
