Simon Jordan fires doomsday warning as he predicts up to 80 per cent of clubs face going bust

Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan has fired an extraordinary warning that the vast majority of clubs in the UK could go out of business because of coronavirus.

The outspoken talkSPORT pundit has revealed his shock belief that 80 per cent of clubs could go to the wall because of the crisis.

The shock figures would cause turmoil through football and drastically change the face of the game throughout the country if the doomsday prediction comes true.

The UK government are trying to get football back at the top level soon to 'improve the mood' of the nation during lockdown but there is lots of anger at the thought of it returning and potentially taking up valuable resources.

But Jordan fears that there might not be clubs to play if it continues in this manner as he said: "We are talking about the sustainability of our national sport.

"It brings me to the conclusion that if if my theory is bordering on half correct, then I think 70 to 80 per cent of clubs in this country could very easily go bust."

Clubs in Scotland are already feeling the pinch and voted through a resolution that ended the lower leagues to ensure they were paid out on their final prize money.

But many sides are looking to cut or defer wages with a row under way at Tynecastle as Hearts players have been threatened with suspension by Ann Budge if they don't agree to slash their pay.

Elsewhere, Celtic, Rangers, Aberdeen and Hibs have all agreed deferrals while the likes of Kilmarnock and Hamilton have furloughed their players.
