Simon Harris fires back at Catholic priest who criticised his support for non-religious based sex education

Health Minister Simon Harris has fired back at a Catholic priest who criticised his support for the ban on religious-influenced sex education.

Harris has said that "judging others so harshly" does not represent the Christianity which he believes in.

It was sent in response to Fr Padraig O Cochlain, who said the Minister's original tweet had its own "inherent ethos".

Harris originally took to Twitter on Saturday to welcome the Board of Management at Castelknock Education Together's decision to seek an alternative provider for sex-ed based lessons.

The Board had received wide backlash from parents when it had been announced that the Accord institution would deliver lessons to 5th and 6th class students.

Other Twitter users piled in to defend the Minister, with one user saying:

"Well said minister. Just one thing....God's a woman"

Another user wrote: "Well well said Minister. For too long Ireland in particular, and it's ordinary decent ppl have been victim to the "do as I say but not as I do brigade."

"I too believe in live and let live, and that sex education for children should be based on facts, not agenda, dogma or denial."
