Simon Harris brilliantly responds after unexpected appearance in RTE's Reeling in the Years

Simon Harris has joked about his hairstyle after making an unexpected appearance in the latest episode of Reeling in the Years.

In the program, a youthful Harris popped up on our screens as he made his maiden speech in the Dail.

Harris nominated Enda Kenny as Taoiseach in front of a packed Leinster House.

And watching the show, the Minister tweeted: "Think my 2011 hair is even worse than my lockdown hair! Didn’t expect to be on #reelingintheyears! Was honoured to nominate Enda Kenny to be Taoiseach in 2011 in my maiden speech in the Dail."

Among the events that featured in the episode included the general election and the election of Enda Kenny as Taoiseach as well as Micheal Martin rising to become leader of Fianna Fail.

The deepening global financial crash was also heavily featured as images of countless young people emigrated filled screens.

Also of note was the election of the now beloved President Michael D Higgins.

While there was plenty of sombre moments throughout the episode there was one memory that had viewers in stitches.

Pop mega star Rihanna spent some time in Ireland that year where she shot part of the now iconic music video for "We Found Love".

She was spotted in Co. Down shooting scenes for the video in a field while she also can be seen in the video dancing on tables in a local chipper.
