Signs of an indecisive partner and how to deal with them

The indecisiveness of a spouse or partner can be a silent killer in a relationship or marriage. A partner who stalls decisions may be battling their own inner fears or hesitant in expressing their say in important matters. Poor mental health or suffering from depression or anxiety is one of the reasons people become indecisive but in most cases it could be due to their fear of taking on responsibility, being judged, or simply risk aversion. If you too have a partner who isn't good at making the right decisions at the right time, scroll ahead.

Here are signs of an indecisive partner:

1. Chronic procrastinationThere are a lot of decisions that partners take together. A person who's more decisive and clear about decisions may have a hard time convincing their partner to go ahead with certain things. This could even be more problematic with chronic procrastinators who struggle to make even small day-to-day decisions. This could lead to frustration and bad blood.

2. Seeking validation

An indecisive partner may not trust their own or partner's instinct and seek opinions from a dozen people before making a decision. This can leave their partner confused and disrespected.

3. Cancellation of plans

An indecisive person keeps changing plans as they are unsure about what they want. It is common for them to say yes to dinner or movie dates and travel plans, only to change their mind at the last minute.

4. They don't take responsibility for their decisions

Indecisive partners may not like to accept blame for their wrong decisions and blame others for influencing them. They may do this subconsciously, but this may affect their relationships.

How to deal with an indecisive partner

1. Communicate effectivelyThere is no relationship issue that good communication cannot solve. Discussing pros and cons of a decision with your partner who's a slow decision-maker can help them evaluate the situation better.

2. Encourage them to follow their heart

Many people lack faith in themselves and motivating them to listen to their instincts can help them make the right decision.

3. Be a little assertive

Giving them a reasonable deadline or helping them decide by giving them choices can expedite their decision-making.

4. Be patient with them

Some people take their own time weighing pros and cons of a situation before making any decision. Rushing them to make quick decisions can backfire in that case. Being gentle and patient with them can help improve their decision-making.
