‘Significant’ number of firearms seized in Co Down, police say

A “significant” number of firearms have been seized in Northern Ireland.

Officers from the National Crime Agency (NCA) and the PSNI were involved in the operation which was part of a probe into organised crime.

It's understood that more than ten firearms have been recovered so far in an ongoing search operation in the Jerrettspass area of Co Down.

In a statement, an NCA spokesperson said: "National Crime Agency officers, supported by colleagues from the PSNI, have today recovered a significant number of firearms following a search operation in the Jerrettspass area of County Down.

"In excess of ten firearms have been recovered so far.

"The ongoing search is part of an NCA investigation into organised crime."

The NCA said that a further update would be issued on Friday (May 21).
