Shrewsbury International School Bangkok selected world’s Best International School 2019

Bangkok - Shrewsbury International School Bangkok has scooped the top ranking at the annual International School Awards, recently organised in London, as the best international school in the world for its programme to help students identify and win places at colleges and universities, worldwide.

The International School Awards, formerly known as the British International School Awards, are hosted by International School Leader Magazine, and is the world’s leading award programme to recognise international schools.

Shrewsbury Bangkok was selected from among more than 230 international schools nominated for the prestigious award out of 10,282 international schools currently operating worldwide, winning the top award in the category of ‘Outstanding Initiative that Supports Students’ Pathways to Higher Education’.

Mr. Stephen Holroyd, Director of Schools for Shrewsbury International in Asia said, “Being selected for this top honour on the global stage is a rare and humbling privilege.  It is the result of the right combination of great students, committed teaching staff, caring parents, and the supervision of the school by a board of governors with a long-term view to attaining excellence.”

Shrewsbury International School Bangkok was established in 2003 by Mr. Chali Sophonpanich and, in the last 15 years, has consistently ranked among the most successful schools in Thailand in placing its students at the world’s top universities.

During the last two years, almost 30 Shrewsbury Bangkok students have won places at Oxford University, Cambridge University, and ‘Ivy League’ universities in the United Sates, including Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Cornell and the University of Pennsylvania, and a total of 131 students have won places at the world’s Top 50 universities during this year, alone.

Mr. Chris Seal, Principal of Shrewsbury International School Bangkok, Riverside Campus, said that Shrewsbury Bangkok has set up a dedicated team of four advisors with specialist knowledge of British, American, and Thai universities to prepare students in gaining a place at the best universities.

“They have in-depth knowledge of each student’s strengths, goals, and personality, and guide them to the universities and courses that are the ‘best fit’ for them so that they may not only increase their chances of winning places at the best possible universities but also are happy once they are there,” Mr. Seal said.

He said that it has become extremely competitive to win a place at the best universities, noting that “each year, a university like Stanford receives around 50,000 applications, with only around 200 places awarded to international students.”

“The very top universities not only just look at academic potential but at the experiences and other out-of-class pursuits of students when awarding places, and it is why we place a lot of emphasis on giving students all-round life skills that can make them valuable members of society as well as preferred candidates for the world’s best universities,” Mr. Seal said.
