Shrewsbury draw up next manager short-list to find Sam Ricketts replacement

Shrewsbury have drawn up a short-list of bosses to replace Sam Ricketts.

Names in the frame include former Town boss Paul Hurst , Gary Holt who has quit Livingston and highly-rated Solihull coach Jimmy Shan.

Shrewsbury axed Ricketts after a 2-2 draw at MK Dons left the club 23rd in League One after eight League games without a win.

Hurst, 46, managed Shrewsbury from October 2016 to May 2018, leading them to the League One play-off final, which they lost in extra time to Rotherham.

That was a second Wembley trip of the season having also reached the EFL Trophy final.

He quit for Ipswich and subsequently also had a spell with Scunthorpe but is now keen to return as manager for a second stint.

Holt, 47, quit Scottish club Livingston this week who finished fifth in the Scottish Premiership last term but are 12th this season after a 1-0 home loss to fellow strugglers St Mirren.

Shan, 42, previously worked for West Brom where he won seven of his 12 games as caretaker as they lost in the 2019 Championship play-off semi-finals on penalties to Aston Villa.

Shan's Solihull side, assisted by Richard Beale, have won four of their first seven National League games and are into the FA Cup second round against Morecambe on Saturday.
