Show’s bound to be sheer Madness

A Perth theatre group is getting ready to sing the songs of Madness next year.

Ad-Lib Theatre Arts will be putting on the show ‘Our House’ in June 2020, and rehearsals are already well underway.

‘Our House’, featuring the music of ska band Madness, tells the story of Joe Casey, who on the night of his 16th birthday, finds himself in trouble with the police.

With a decision to make, Joe’s life is split in half - good Joe, who stays to confess, and bad Joe, who flees.

The audience will witness the parallel worlds of good Joe and bad Joe as the story heads towards an explosive climax to find out what decision the teenager has made.

Vicky Glennie will be directing the show.

She said: “I was hooked by the story from the get go and I am a huge Madness fan so I absolutely fell in love with this musical.

“The story will pull on your heart strings but at the same time, you’ll be singing along with sheer joy.

“It’s a brilliant and boisterous, engaging and energetic show.

“Rehearsals will be sheer madness - do you see what I did there?”

Despite the show being months away, the auditions have already been held and the cast has been announced.

Cieran Low will play the main character Joe, with Ruby McAlpine as Sarah, Drew Robertson and Chris Eadie as Emmo and Lewis, and Lisa Alexander and Mel Hopkins as Billie and Angie.

Alice Sutherland and Glen Alexander will play Joe’s mum and dad, Steven Hewitson will take on the character of Reecey, and Grant Tocher plays Mr Pressman.

The rest of the ensemble will be made up of Alfy McFarlane, Alix Young, Ben Wilson-Stewart, Charlotte Waite, Ellie Dailey, Emma Davie, Fern Tomson, Gail Stewart, Holly Hamilton, Jade Delaney, Leah Ward, Molly Pettigrew, Nathan Hunter, Niamh Watt, Rebecca McAinich, Rory Jeffrey, Rowan Duncan, Victor Malkov and Zara King.

The production will be at North Inch Community Campus in Perth from Wednesday, June 3 until Saturday, June 6.
