Should Steve Bruce stick with a winning team? Pick your Newcastle XI for Southampton trip

Newcastle United can move into the Champions League places this evening with a win over Southampton.

Despite criticism over the performances of Steve Bruce's side, a draw at Wolves and a win over Everton have ensured the Magpies have made their best start to a Premier League campaign since 2011.

They now face a Southampton side who, despite being currently fifth in the table and unbeaten in their last five matches, are reeling from the loss of star striker Danny Ings through injury.

If Newcastle can repeat last season's 1-0 win on the South Coast then it will leave them in a very strong position heading into the upcoming international break.

The question for Bruce is does he stick with the team that beat Everton last weekend or does he make changes to either the system or personnel?

United will again be without Martin Dubravka, Matt Ritchie, Jonjo Shelvey and Dwight Gayle through injury but have no fresh fitness concerns following last Sunday's win over the Toffees.

Bruce has utilised a 5-3-2 system in each of the last two games and, for the time-being, he seems set to stick with it.

Allan Saint-Maximin has played in a 'free' central role although some onlookers believe he would be more effective out wide in a different system.

Ryan Fraser impressed from the bench last weekend and created Newcastle's second goal for Callum Wilson. Could he force his way into the reckoning?

Meanwhile, Jacob Murphy has impressed at right-wing-back in each of the last two weeks, despite United having three recognised right-backs in the squad. Should he keep his place?

And will there be any changes in midfield? Isaac Hayden and Matty Longstaff have returned to fitness but Sean Longstaff, Miguel Almiron and Jeff Hendrick did a decent job in there last weekend.
