Shotts girl raises over £5K to help kids with cancer

A Hamilton College junior school pupil has raised a magnificent £5135 for children’s charity, The Little Princess Trust.

Lexie Lane, from Shotts, had a whopping 13 inches cut off her hair, all of which will be donated to the trust.

The charity will now use her locks to make a wig for a child suffering hair loss through illness.

By raising more than £5000, a delighted Lexie almost doubled her target.

The money raised will not only go towards making wigs, but will also be used for research to help find less aggressive and less toxic cancer treatments for children.

When asked why she wanted to do this, Lexie said: “I do not want anyone to feel left out when they lose their hair”.

Her proud mum Laura said: “Both her dad and I are immensely proud of Lexie undertaking this challenge and we’re delighted that friends and family have supported Lexie’s incredible fundraising efforts.”

Jenny Paterson, head of Hamilton College junior school, added: “We are incredibly proud of Lexie.

“We actively encourage all of our children and young people to think of others.”
