Shoppers love £13 ‘filter in a bottle’ makeup duo that’s ‘better than Charlotte Tilbury’

Trying to find affordable makeup products that perform just as well as high end can be a challenge, but some shoppers say they’ve discovered a budget beauty buy that’s ‘better than’ brands like Charlotte Tilbury and Estee Lauder.

The £10 foundation - sold at Boots - has been dubbed ‘filter in a bottle’ for its ‘unreal results’.

The IRL Filter Longwear Foundation comes from the popular affordable cosmetics brand Revolution Beauty, who have previously been praised for their ‘dupes’, chiefly their PRO Miracle Cream, which users say rivals Charlotte Tilbury’s magic cream.

Usually £9.99, the foundation also has a matching concealer, which retails at £6.99 - but the retailer recently brought back a deal where you can get them both for £12.99, saving 20 per cent on the RRP.

The foundation is described as a ‘medium to full buildable soft focus breathable matte formula’, and promises to be oil free, shine free, creaseproof, lifeproof and smudgeproof whilst providing 16 hours wear time from day to night.

Available in 30 shades, it’s said to have 20 per cent more pigment which makes it easy to blend, while being clinically proven to be non-comedogenic and non-pore blocking, making it suitable for blemish prone skin.

Shoppers have left thousands of five star reviews on the Revolution Beauty website, with one calling it a ‘life saver’.

One review said: “The foundation goes on lovely and I get full coverage. My skin looks amazing so silky and smooth. Tbh I can't even tell I've got makeup on.”

Another added: “This foundation has been a life saver! I have oily and blemished skin, and so I avoid really wearing makeup as nothing ever works or looks right. After trying a lot of expensive oil free products which have never really worked, I’m quite shocked that foundation (£10) is the best. Just proves you don’t need to spend more to get more.”

Others say it’s better than foundations that cost upwards of £30, adding: “I buy loads of high end foundations. From Bobbi Brown to KVD to Too Faced but this one is my new favourite. I was so shocked how good my skin looked outside, I kept looking at myself and people gave compliments! Beyond happy! Amazing finish and great price.”

Another said: “Great coverage without looking dry or caked. I also have the more expensive version from CT but this one is much better. Lasts all day. Perfect shade recommended through the online shade finder tool. Very pleased with this.”

With a third writing: “Fabulous stuff I actually now prefer it to my double wear I have! Excellent foundation easy to blend."

Housed in a luxe glass bottle with a built in pump, there’s no wonder people think it would cost more - especially when you have to buy the pump separately with some brands, like Estee Lauder.

However, some people did leave some one and two star reviews, some of which said they didn’t find it great for oily skin. One said: “Shade match was pretty good but I didn't feel this lasted as long as I'd like and the finish wasn't quite what I was looking for. Is ok but as an everyday foundation. I didn't feel like it mixed well with other products, I felt like it moved about too much.”

Another added: “Colour and luminosity were great, but it didn't last. I do not have oily skin but it left a greasy film after a few hours.”

Then there’s the matching concealer, which also comes in 30 shades, and provides instant coverage for blemishes, dark circles and fine lines.

And apparently, even Holly Willoughby is a fan, with celebrity makeup artist Patsy O’Neill including the £6.99 beauty must-have in her 'spring refresh' product roundup on Holly’s blog, Wylde Moon. She wrote: “Revolution always comes in with a great product at an affordable price. This new concealer gives instant full coverage and a breathable matte finish."

The easy-to-use precision flat tip applicator provides coverage with just one swipe, allowing a controlled application, even in those hard-to-reach areas like the inner corners of your eyes. It’s the perfect tool for contouring too making it multi-use to concealer, correct and contour.

Shoppers loved it just as much as the foundation, too, writing: “Great coverage and light weight on skin. Blends very easily. Never have much success with concealers as always seem to look cakey on my skin, so was surprised this worked so well, great product!”

Another added: “I use this as a base for under eyes and blemishes before putting the foundation on. Absolute game changer. Matches my skin tone perfectly, lasts hours into the day and small enough for on the go.”

There are a small number of negative reviews, though most are concerned with incorrect shades. One said: “There's nothing more frustrating than the wrong shade. The formula seems fine.” Another added: “Far too dark for my olive skin...think as a concealer, should have gone lighter.”

The foundation is currently reduced to £8 at LookFantastic, with some shades also available for less at Amazon, while it remains £9.99 at Boots and Superdrug. Or, you can pick up the foundation and concealer duo on the Revolution Beauty website for £12.99 here.
