NOIDA: The market association of Sector 18 has written to the Gautam Budh Nagar police complaining about how shoppers and commuters are regularly harassed by beggars and small goods sellers near the metro station. In the letter, the association has alleged that the beggars snatch money and phones, requesting the Noida police to increase patrolling in the area.
SK Jain, the president of the association said that some miscreants are roaming around Sector 18 market. “They approach you on the pretext of selling goods like balloons or flowers and snatch phone and wallet.We requested the police to keep a close watch. Recently, a woman shopper had to chase a beggar to get her Rs 500 back in front of Tikona Park. The shopper was taking out Rs 10 for the beggar when he snatched Rs 500 and tried to flee,” said Jain.Deepanjana Dasgupta, a shopper said: “As you step out of the metro gate, kids selling small goods will keep forcing you to buy the goods,” she said.
Love Kumar, joint commissioner of police (law and order) confirmed that they have received the letter from the association and will carry out a drive.
