Shocking moment Gogglebox star pushes dog off sofa prompting viewers to call on RSPCA

A Gogglebox star has come under fire after being accused of "dog abuse" for pushing her dog off a sofa stool.

Ellie Warner defended herself on Twitter after being blasted over the 'disgraceful' incident on last night's episode of the hit Channel 4 show.

Mick, the six-month-old Greyhound, was sent flying from a stool after Ellie spilt her food while she and sister/co-star Izzi were having their dinner.

But she then swats away the pup in a bid to stop him getting to the food, resulting in him toppling to the floor.

The clip engaged viewers and resulted in some voicing concern about how the dog is treated off camera.

Aisling said: "Watching the poor puppy being pushed about makes me want to cry, she shouldn’t have a dog if that’s the way she treats it & god only knows how rough she is with it off camera."

While Pauline Casey wrote: "Callous and cruel. This dog needs a loving, kind home and Gogglebox needs to sack these girls."

And @patrikgeorg simply wrote "Dog abuse".

On the show, which films families and friends as they dissect the week's telly offerings, Ellie spills beans on her leg as she and Izzi tuck into a KFC.

Little Mick then leaps onto the stool as the flustered star puts her food down next to him before going to clean herself up shouting "I don't care. It's burning me".

As her sister watches and laughs at her misfortune, she then swats at her pet.

But Ellie took to Twitter to defend her actions, saying that she would "never hurt" the youngster.

She posted: "Sorry everyone was scolded by burning hot beans, the foot stool is literally a foot from the floor so Mick was not hurt.

"I love my dog and would never hurt him and I also would not let him eat Kentucky fried chicken as it is not suitable food for dogs."

However one follower forwarded the tweet to the RSPCA who responded: "This is sad to see, it's unnecessary to push a dog away like that.

"We only advocate the use of positive reinforcement training, as opposed to punishing bad behaviour in dogs."

But Ellie hit back, telling the the animal charity they were "welcome to visit and investigate any time".
