Shocking footage shows explosion hit Clydebank boatyard as building up in flames

The moment an explosion erupted following a blaze at a boatyard in Clydebank was captured in horrifying footage which shows thick plumes of black smoke invade the area yesterday evening.

Firefighters raced to the Dock Street boatyard after 8pm on June 15 after a fire ripped through the building. Four appliances were sent to the scene as emergency services battled to put out the inferno.

The building was up in flames before emergency services put out the fire and made the area safe. There have been no reported injuries.

Police have now launched a probe to establish the cause of the fire.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 8.09pm on Thursday, 15 June to reports of a building fire in Clydebank.

"Operations Control mobilised four appliances to the town's Dock Street, where firefighters extinguished the fire and worked to make the area safe before leaving the scene.

"There were no casualties."

A Police Scotland spokesperson added: "Around 9.05pm on Thursday, 15 June, police were called to a report of a fire at a boatyard on Dock Street, Clydebank.

"Officers attended to assist the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and enquiries are being carried out to establish the cause of the fire."
