Shock Dundee United takeover bid emerges as Mark Ogren is offered exit route

Under-fire Dundee United owner Mark Ogren is set to field a fresh offer to sell the club, according to reports.

American owner Ogren has held the reins at the club since 2018 but fans have been left furious with their recent trajectory on and off the pitch. They have parted company with two managers already this season after Liam Fox's exit and Ogren, along with sporting director Tony Asghar, have been at the centre of fan protests for change at the highest level.

The Tannadice side sit bottom of the Scottish Premiership table and face a relegation dogfight with 12 league games remaining and diehards let those in power know about it at the club's AGM last week. They were thumped against Ross County at the weekend in the game which cost Fox his job and with just 12 games left they sit rooted to the bottom of the table and facing a return to the Championship.

As the club continues to toil, it’s being reported that a group of local consortium owners have "sounded him out" over selling the club. It's claimed their bid is still in its early stages but the group have a business plan they believe can take the club forward on and off the pitch if it is successful.

Ogren incensed fans with a statement at the AGM which sought to quell relegation fears with a guarantee they would be able to regain instant promotion. But United fans, who saw their side spend four years in the Championship between 2016 and 2020, remain gravely concerned about another stint in the second tier.
