A road was closed for around two hours amid concerns for a man on a bridge over the Metro line.

Emergency services were called to Earsdon Road in Shiremoor, North Tyneside, at around 8.30am on Saturday.

Police closed the road, near its junction with Lesbury Avenue, while officers spoke to the man.

He was eventually brought to safety and the road re-opened shortly before 11am.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “Shortly after 8.30am on Saturday we received a report of concern for the welfare of a man who was on a bridge in the Earsdon Road area of Shiremoor.

“Officers attended the scene and spoke to the man in question, who was later brought to safety.”

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service and the North East Ambulance Service were also in attendance.
