CHICAGO _ James Shields left to a standing ovation after striking out five _ including Kris Bryant three times _ walking four and giving up four hits and no runs in 72/3 innings of the Sox's 3-0 victory Tuesday against the Cubs at U.S. Cellular Field.
Cubs starter Kyle Hendricks hadn't given up a run since June 29, a span of 221/3 innings.
But Jose Abreu's RBI single in the first ended that streak in front of 39,553, the second sellout in two days and third this season on the South Side.
Adam Eaton added a 390-foot solo home run off Hendricks in the fifth to push the lead to 2-0 and help ensure the Sox's fourth victory in a row, the first time they've won that many straight since May 6-9.
Hendricks struck out four in a row, including the side in the second, and finished with seven in 52/3 innings to go along with six hits, two runs and two walks.
Cubs reliever Travis Wood walked three in a row, the last being Tyler Saladino, after giving up a single to Todd Frazier to give the Sox a 3-0 lead in the sixth.
Bryant has struck out seven times in 10 career at-bats against Shields.
The White Sox improved to 50-50, while the Cubs fell to 59-40.
