Sheffield Wednesday boss outlines how his side beat Sunderland so comfortably

Darren Moore praised his Sheffield Wednesday side saying 'everyone, to a man, was excellent' as they beat Sunderland 3-0 at Hillsborough.

The Black Cats slumped to a third successive league defeat as they brushed aside by the Owls, with Moore's men earning a victory that eased some of the pressure on their boss after going into the game on the back of a run of just one win in six league outings.

First-half goals from Theo Corbeanu and Florian Kamberi put the hosts in the driving seat, with Lee Gregory adding the third early in the second half.

"I am pleased with the boys." said Moore.

"We felt we would get chances to score. The most pleasing for me was the work off the ball.

"I thought everyone, to a man, was excellent between the units and it needed to be that performance against the opposition that were up against.

"When I look at the performance, we were determined and dogged. We have been building that resilience.

"We spoke at the start of the season about building a platform of being hard to beat, and we have that been over the weeks.

"We’ve been punished for lapses in concentration when we have got our noses in front. If you look at the overall performances, I have been delighted.

"What we got [against Sunderland] was a more complete performance in the opposition box.

"What we saw on the defensive side was block tackles and doing the ugly side of the game.

"I am pleased that has come in front of the home support. I am delighted everyone that has come tonight that they have seen the team perform.

"We thank them all for coming out on Tuesday night and getting right behind the team."

For Sunderland and Lee Johnson, it was another bad night as this defeat came on the back of a 5-1 hammering at Rotherham United on Saturday, and a 1-0 home defeat against Charlton Athletic the previous weekend.

And while the Black Cats remain fifth in the table, they are now six points behind leaders Wigan and five points behind second-placed Plymouth, albeit with a game in hand of both.
