There's no better accolade for a product than when the founder of the store says they bought it for their own home. With 1000s of items to choose from, designer Shea McGee just revealed the 15 pieces she's shopping for herself from her homeware brand, McGee & Co.
Shea took to Instagram to show her recent haul from the McGee & Co's Summer Collection and as expected, it was filled with beautiful rustic pieces, but surprisingly, it was a very practical item that caught my eye – a wicker tissue box cover that Shea herself says 'everyone is going crazy over.'
It might not sound glamorous, but it's often these pieces that elevate our everyday items that go on to be sell-out products. Because how can you make a mundane tissue box on your coffee table or console look nicer? Cover it in wicker.
Shea's haul has come at the perfect time too, as there's currently up to 30% off site-wide on the McGee & Co. website (making my favorite tissue box cover just $30). Here's a closer look at all of Shea's favorites, perfect for recreating her iconic modern rustic style in your own home.
I love this charming tissue box. It brings an earthy, pared-back feel to any space and can elevate a minimal table or bookshelf arrangement into something more impactful. Shea says, 'It has a beautiful weave,' and she's not wrong.
'One of my favorite new pieces is this woven tray,' explains Shea. 'The construction is really beautiful, it has this rolled rim and a leather handle with a contrasting stitching, and the best part is it has a removable glass insert so you can wipe it down.'
This bowl would make for a perfect centerpiece on a kitchen table or island. But as Shea mentions, you could also use it for floral arrangements. 'We made a video earlier and included this floral arrangement. You're seeing this footed bowl in all her glory. You can style it alone, but it's a really good base for arrangements as well.'
Amongst Shea's haul is this luxurious marble pot that's perfect for giving your table a hint of decadence. She explains in her video, 'I love this green marble canister. I love to put salt in these.'
The more weathered a pot is, the better. While you might think they work best in the garden, Shea says, 'I got these really pretty terracotta pots and I plan to put them in my mudroom.'
This hand-painted plate will undoubtedly impress guests when you're hosting over the summer. Cover it with a leafy salad or an array of charcuterie for a pleasing arrangement that entices.
Level up your tablescape with these rattan shell-shaped dishes that nod to the coastal trend without going overboard. Place one beside each guest's plate for a symmetrical arrangement.
This silver tray looks antique in style and is so Nancy Meyers-coded. Shea says, 'I've been loving silver recently. I got this silver catch-all tray that would look great with a stack of books.'
What better than floral napkins for a summer table? Shea says, 'These are new napkins. This is our Kittredge print, and it also comes in a pillow. This textile was designed in-house.'
Shea explains, 'This little Derby cup is inspired by a julep cup with a really pretty pewter finish. I love that it has these facets. This is going on my nightstand, and I'll put flowers in it.'
'I've already put this McGee & Co frame in my room because I'm really excited about it,' explains Shea. 'These are substantial, the weight is heavy and has a really pretty ribbed texture around the edge.'
Copper cookware always gives a kitchen a farmhouse feel. Shea says, 'I've been cooking a lot, getting ready for my cookbook book and we just launched these really cool copper measuring cups and spoons.'
You'll notice practical household items have been entirely reimagined in the collection, like this oven mitt. 'I love gingham on everything. This is my favorite style of oven mitt because it covers your arms and drapes over the handle of your oven in a really nice way,' says Shea.
Amongst Shea's selection is this rustic round vase. It's a timeless shape that brings impact and drama to any surface, no matter which flower or stem you choose to fill it with.
'These hurricane glasses come in three sizes,' explains Shea. We have the medium and small, and then I realized we also have a really small size, and I need to get that as well. I plan to put pillar candles in here and it will create the softest, prettiest glow.'
Shea's picks are the perfect shopping inspiration I needed going into Memorial Day weekend. There are big discounts across all sections of the McGee & Co. site so as well as all these lovely summer decor pieces, you could save big on some more investment pieces too, like rugs, mirrors, and outdoor furniture.
