A TikToker has gone viral after discovering the truth about her $12 brownie bites. In the clip, which has amassed 55,500 views, TikToker @timmyturnip shared her disappointment upon discovering that Kimberly’s Baked Goods uses Ghirardelli brownie mix in their brownie bites.
“OK, can someone, like, let me know if this is, like, a scam or not, please?” she began. “I genuinely don’t know, but I was eating these brownies that I got at a food vendor event, and they’re really good. I looked at the ingredients on the back, and I noticed, if you can see, the first ingredient is Ghirardelli Double Chocolate Brownie Mix.”
She continued, “I’m slightly confused, because I paid 12 bucks for this, and I just, you know, assumed that they were like, actually, homemade from scratch brownie bites. But yeah, I posted a comment on her Instagram basically saying like, ‘Oh, I just saw that it’s like, um, a grocery store brownie mix,’ and then she deleted my comment.”
“So yeah, I really hope that I didn’t get like, scammed, but like, it was only 12 bucks, so oh well. But yeah, just let me know, like if you’re like a vendor or like a baker, if that’s normal.”
The TikToker didn’t immediately respond to The Mary Sue’s request for comment via TikTok comment.

Commenters were split
In the comments, users were divided. Some agreed with @timmyturnip, while others took the vendor’s side. “It’s crazy she actually put that,” one wrote.
“This is why it’s difficult to support small businesses,” another added. “The times I’ve tried to shop small I’ve been taken advantage of like this and it pmo.”
A third agreed, writing, “I’d be upset, too! I expect homemade. I have one product that I use box cake mix in – gooey butter cake. Everything else is from scratch.”
On the other side, a fourth commenter said, “I mean if it’s good who cares?”
A fifth argued that @timmyturnip was “not scammed per se bc the info was there for you to make a decision before purchased.”
While a sixth said, “I mean, LOTS of bakers use instant mix. It has the perfect ratios, it does BIG batches at a time. You’re mostly paying for someone to do everything for you, from the baking, the portions, the delivery. Plus, it tastes good, so I really don’t see the problem.”
Moreover, in an Instagram comment screenshotted by a TikTok commenter, Kimberly’s Baked Goods responded to the controversy.
“There is only one item out of all of the items we provide that uses a box mix, and that is our brownie bites,” the comment read.
“We use a high-quality mix (Ghirardelli) and there are other ingredients added to make it our own. Everything else that we provide is made from scratch, no box mixes. Thank you for asking. We appreciate your question and are grateful to provide baked goods for our community. It is important to us that our items are fresh, quality, and made with care.”

Another culinary scam
When it comes to baked goods, scams seem to be going viral left, right, and center. In a TikTok that went viral, Alexa (@annoyingalexa) shared how her best friend’s bridesmaid brunch was ruined after the cake she bought failed to meet expectations.
“She’s lucky I’m not gonna name drop her yet,” Alexa added. “Because she’s not even offering to give any kind of compensation for how horrific this cake was.”
While the cake her best friend ordered was classy—a heart-shaped cake adorned with pearls with elegant lettering spelling out “she said yes,” the resultant cake was crooked, only had one pearl, and looked as if a “five-year-old” had made it. Despite this, the baker in DMs insisted she worked hard on the cake and refused to give compensation.
