Shawne Merriman to announce Chargers’ Round 2 selection in 2019 NFL draft

Chargers legend Shawne Merriman will announce the team’s second-round draft pick later this month in Nashville, Tenn., the league announced on Thursday.

Merriman, known for the ‘Lights Out’ dance after every sack, busted it out quite frequently, amassing 39.5 sacks during his career with the team.

In 2005, Merriman broke onto the scene as a rookie amassing 10 sacks before leading the league in the category the following campaign with 17. 2007 would be his last standout year where he tallied 12.5 sacks.

For this year’s draft, the NFL is having former first-round picks announce their team’s second-round pick, while players drafted in later rounds will read off the third-round selection. Los Angeles is scheduled to pick at No. 60 in the second round.

Merriman also will be on-site to mentor the prospects and give back to the city of Nashville through participation in a variety of community service events.

This will be the third year of him announcing the Bolts’ selection. In 2016, he announced linebacker Jatavis Brown in the fifth round. In 2017, he announced the pick of guard Forrest Lamp in the second round.
