Shaughna Phillips had emergency C-section as she shares scary birth story for first time

Shaughna Phillips has revealed that she can't help but feel sad that she wasn't able to give birth the way she wanted to.

Earlier this month, the Love Island star, 28, welcomed her first child, Lucia, and shared the news with fans on her Instagram.

The reality TV star has revealed that she was forced to give birth via an emergency c-section although she wanted to welcome her daughter naturally.

Shaughna revealed she was advised to have an epidural - telling her followers it is 'the best thing ever invented' for women.

"I was induced at 41+3 and had the dilapan rods for 24 hours, when they were taken out I was 2cm dilated and had my waters broke. That wasn't fun but gas and air deffo helped," she penned.

"I then went 4 hours in Labour with just gas and air and when I was next examined I hadn't dilated anymore. The pain was manageable but when I realised I hadn't dilated any more I felt so deflated.

"I was then offered the hormone drip and was strongly advised to have an epidural because the hormone drip sends your contractions from 0-100! The epidural is the best thing ever invented and I'm so glad I had it! From 6am to 3pm I went from 2cm to 9cm with minimal pain.

New mum Shaughna also said that despite starting to push after her contractions started, her baby girl's heart rate started to skyrocket which ended up in her having to give birth via an emergency c-section.

"I started pushing at 6:30pm for over an hour but Lucia would come down and slide straight back up and her heart rate was rocketing," she said.

"I then went in for emergency forceps but as soon as they put them on her head she flipped around so they had to stop that and go ahead with the emergency c section."

Although she was left disappointed at not being able to deliver her daughter naturally, Shaughna's main priority was for her baby girl to be delivered quickly and safely.

"As soon as I knew baby was in distress I didn’t care how they got her out, I just wanted her here as quickly and safely as possible! The second I heard her cry every fear I had left my body," she said.

"I was really sad I wasn’t able to give birth how I originally planned, but I always said I’ll have whatever birth needed to get her here, and that was the most important thing to me," she added.

The reality TV star first announced in October that she was expecting her first baby, sharing the news of her pregnancy with footage of her having an ultrasound scan as well as clips of a positive pregnancy test.

Shaughna welcomed her baby after a tough couple of months following the arrest of her baby daddy Billy Webb.

Webb was arrested on January 20 and has been charged with possession with intent to supply a Class A drug and being concerned in the supply of controlled drugs on 21 January.

A representative for Shaughna - who had been dating childhood pal Webb since 2020 - told the Mirror the reality TV star "had absolutely no knowledge of any activity involving the allegations against Billy".

Shaughna later said her baby's father "isn't around" following his arrest.
