Jane Claxton is the experienced one and uncapped South Australian Lucy Sharman the bolter as the Hockeyroos unveiled their 2024 contract list ahead of the Paris Olympics.

Defender Sharman was among the new additions after the 20-year-old defender impressed at the national U21s tournament and also for the Adelaide Fire in this year's Hockey One League.

Other new faces in the 22-person contract list include NSW striker Alice Arnott and 19-year-old Tasmanian Maddison Brooks.

Sharman and Brooks are currently in Chile representing the Australian U21s team, the Jillaroos, at the FIH Junior World Cup.

At the other end of the scale sit experienced duo Claxton (228 caps) and Brooke Peris (197), who are both on track to snare a third Olympics berth.

Midfielder Courtney Schonell missed out on a spot as she recovers from a major knee injury.

Coach Katrina Powell remains at the helm and has been tasked with leading the Hockeyroos to their fourth Olympic gold medal - and first since Sydney, 2000.

The world No.2 Hockeyroos suffered a shock 1-0 loss to India in the quarter-finals at the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Since then the Hockeyroos have snared silver at the 2022 Commonwealth Games - losing 2-1 to England in the final - and bronze at the 2022 World Cup.

But it is Olympic gold that remains the No.1 priority for the Hockeyroos.

Their 2024 campaign starts with the FIH Pro League season five, which will be played from February 4-18 with matches against China, USA, India and the Netherlands.

They will then head to Belgium and England for FIH Pro League matches against Belgium, Argentina, Great Britain and Germany from May 29 to June 12.

In total, the 2024 contract list contains seven players with 100 caps or more.

"There has been some really standout performances throughout the year, from the FIH Pro League Series, Test series against China and India, successful Oceania Cup Olympic qualifiers and the recent JDH Hockey One League," Powell said in a statement.

"Essentially this has enabled the national selection panel to select a squad with a really good mix of youth and experience, which is favourable leading into an Olympic year.

"The fact that the squad will again be centralised at hockey's high-performance home in Perth is also very fortunate.

"The opportunity to have all the athletes together is something that the team and I are very excited about."
