Shane Duffy Celtic interest confirmed as Neil Lennon admits early talks with Brighton defender

Celtic boss Neil Lennon has confirmed the Hoops have made an enquiry to bring Shane Duffy to the Hoops.

The Irish defender is a boyhood Celtic fan and the Premiership champions hope they can use the romance of a transfer to his heroes to convince him to move to Glasgow and shun more Premier League millions.

West Ham are also interested in signing the Brighton centre back and Duffy worked with Hammers boss David Moyes when they were both at Everton.

Lennon refused to be drawn into discussions when asked about signing a centre back following his side's 6-0 win over KR Reykjavik in the Champions League.

But now he's confirmed that early talks have taken place as he told Irish show Off The Ball: "We have made tentative enquiries and we'll see how that goes."

Celtic are in need of a centre back with just Christopher Jullien, Kris Ajer and the versatile Nir Bitton available to Lennon.

And they are willing to do a swap deal which would see Tom Rogic head to England's south coast as part of the bid to sign Duffy.

They've been quoted a £2m loan fee, with Brighton reportedly wanting a minimum of £5m to sell him in this window, with his contract up next summer.
