Several passengers injured as Emirates flight from Auckland to Dubai hit by 'severe' turbulence

Footage from on board the plane showed the floor littered with debris

Several passengers were injured when an Emirates flight was hit by “severe” turbulence.

The plane was travelling from Auckland to Dubai when it suddenly hit a patch of turbulence around three hours before its scheduled arrival time.

Footage shared on social media shows the plane littered with debris as trolleys lie on their side along with smashed bottles and crockery.

A person who shared the video posted on Twitter: “SEVERE TURBULENCE hit an A380 Emirates flying from Auckland to Dubai yesterday."

An Emirates spokesman confirmed some passengers were hurt in the incident, which happened on Flight EK449 on July 10.

He said: “Unfortunately a few passengers and crew suffered minor injuries during this incident.

“First aid was administered and medical assistance was arranged for those who needed it on arrival.

”The safety and well-being of our passengers and crew is always our top priority.”

Last Thursday at least 35 passengers were injured when an Air Canada flight hit a severe patch of turbulence.

The plane, carrying about 285 people, had been flying from Vancouver to Sydney but was forced to divert to Hawaii after the aircraft "encountered forecasted and sudden turbulence”.
