AGRA : Seven members of a Noida-based family were killed and two others critically injured in an accident on the Yamuna expressway on Saturday morning. Their car, a Maruti Wagon R, was hit by an unidentified vehicle near milestone 68 in Mathura’s Naujheel area around 4 am. Those who died included a six-year-old and a newlywed couple.
The family was living in Noida sector 93. They were returning from Hardoi after attending the weddings of their son and a niece. Those dead in the Mathura accident were identified as Lalu Prasad, 65, his 60-year-old wife Chutki, his younger son, 25-year-old Rajesh, daughter-in-law Nandini, 23, 30-year-old elder son, Sanjay, wife 28-year-old Nisha, and sixyear-old grandchild Dheeraj.
PM expresses condolences
Lalu Prasad’s youngest son, 23-year-old Sri Gopal, and three-year-old grandchild Krash are in the hospital for treatment.
SP (rural) Shireesh Chandra said that the family members of the victims were informed about the accident and that the bodies will be handed over to them after a post-mortem. Till the time of filing this report, police were scanning the CCTV footage to identify the vehicle that hit the car. One of Lalu’s sons, Ram Babu, told TOI that the entire family had gone to Hardoi for Rajesh’s wedding on April 28. The family were returning home on Friday night.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences. “The road accident in Mathura is heartwrenching. My deepest condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in the accident. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured,” he posted from his official Twitter handle.
