The M8 is closed in both directions this morning following a serious car crash.
Major queues are already forming on the busy motorway as emergency services deal with the incident which happened at around 4am.
Junction 4a Harthill and Junction 5 Shotts are closed in both ways.
Commuters on the eastbound carriageway face up to a 95 minute wait, while eastbound queues will add approximately 15 minutes to drivers' journeys.
The road is likely to remain closed for some time.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers are currently in attendance on the M8 near to junction 5 at Shotts following a road traffic incident.
"Police were called to the scene at 4.05am on Friday, 2 October.
"The road is currently closed in both directions between junction 4 and junction 5.
"Emergency services remain at the scene and drivers are asked to avoid the area, where possible."
