Serie A side 'set transfer sights' on Rangers midfielder Nico Raskin

Nico Raskin has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for Atalanta.

According to reports, the Serie A side are interested in a summer move for the Belgian midfielder.

Gianluca Di Marzio claims Atalanta have their sights set on Raskin, who is currently playing for Belgium at the World Cup.

He came off the bench to help his side battle back for a 1-1 draw with Egypt in their first match at the tournament.

Now, Atalanta have been linked with eyeing Raskin for a summer move as Mauricio Sarri assembles his squad for the new campaign.

Raskin played 50 times for Rangers last season, becoming a key player under Danny Rohl following a fallout under Russell Martin.

He had been dropped by the previous manager before returning to the fold, having refused the suggestion to leave the club.

“He [Martin] called me saying I wasn't in his plan,” Raskin recalled. “Whatever happened, I wouldn't be in his plan and it would be better for me to leave. I think that was just because the window was closing a couple of days after. It was kind of the last try [to get me to leave]. But I said to him, ‘I'll be coming to training on Monday and then we'll have a chat’.”

He added: “At the end of the day, it was a misunderstanding of the situation. And then with the pressure, people can maybe sometimes go in some direction and think they are right or whatever. I just think the whole situation has been too much for what it had to be. Way too much. I never wanted that.

“I don't think it was good for the team at that period when we were all struggling. to have a big story about that. And was it a deflection or anything? I don't know. But it was really not needed.”
