Sergio Ramos discusses PSG exit plan despite only playing six Ligue 1 games

Iconic Spanish defender Sergio Ramos is already starting to discuss his exit plan from Paris Saint-Germain despite featuring in just six Ligue 1 games since his arrival.

Ramos moved to the Parc des Princes on a free transfer after being released by Real Madrid last summer. After signing a two-year deal he was expected to help PSG to challenge for the Champions League and form a partnership with captain Marquinhos.

But the move has turned out to be a disaster, with Ramos hit by calf and muscle problems that have kept him on the sidelines for much of the campaign. It took him until the end of November to finally make his Ligue 1 debut and he has only started two more French top-flight games since then.

Those injury problems also kept him out of PSG's entire Champions League campaign. Without their veteran defender, the French giants suffered a humiliating collapse against Real Madrid in the second-leg of their Last 16 clash to crash out of the competition.

Arguably, Ramos' injury issues come as little surprise, considering he only made one La Liga appearance after 9 January in the 2020/2021 season for Los Blancos. Even so, PSG have been left disappointed with how the move has worked out.

There has been frequent speculation that they could even rip up Ramos' contract before he has even spent a year in the French capital. But that would not be the defender's wish, with the Spaniard now revealing he wishes to stay at PSG for three years before moving on.

HAVE YOUR SAY! Should PSG terminate the contract of Sergio Ramos amid his injury issues? Comment below.

"I would like to play between four and five more years at the top level and then live another experience. I have two years at PSG, we will try to do three and then we'll see. As long as my physical condition holds up, I think I can keep my mind focused," he told Amazon Prime.

"I prefer to play in the best team in the world than to be the best player because in the end football is a collective sport and it is about winning as a team. Before being the best in the world, I prefer to play world championships, Champions League. And for everything, you always need the work of the team."

While Ramos wishes to stay at the Parc des Princes, it would appear PSG are less keen to extend his injury-hit spell at the club. Sporting director Leonardo recently made his frustration at Ramos' lack of fitness clear.

“When we signed him he was fit. As of now, he’s played five games. Unfortunately, things haven’t gone as we imagined. It’s difficult for him and for everyone else. But we are clear with him," he told L’Equipe last month.

"The day it’s said that he can no longer play, it’ll be clear to everyone. That’s not the case. But not being able to play makes it hard for him to be a leader. The season isn’t over yet, we’ll wait before drawing conclusions."
