Spurs right-back Serge Aurier has claimed that there is no competition for him at right-back in the squad.
With Aurier failing to tie down a place in the first XI since joining from Paris Saint-Germain in 2017, it was thought this season would be his big chance.
There was no replacement bought for Kieran Trippier this summer following his exit to Atletico Madrid, with Kyle Walker-Peters so far making the step up into the first team.
However, Aurier has been on the bench for three of the four Premier League games this season, and following Walker-Peters' hamstring strain he stayed among the substitutes with Davinson Sanchez instead preferred on the right side of defence.
Mauricio Pochettino has also used Juan Foyth at right-back previously, and his international manager Lionel Scaloni is also said to see the youngster's future as a right-back, rather than a central defender.
After making two starts for Ivory Coast in the international break, Aurier was asked whether he was scared of spending more time on the bench, given the competition he is facing at Spurs.
"What competition? There isn't any," he told Bal des Productions.
"I'd simply decided to leave [this summer], which was normal for me.
"Many things were taken into consideration. In the end, I wasn't able to leave.
"It proves the club trust me on a lot of points, and we'll see.
"We'll see how the season pans out, but for now, I'm here, the transfer window is shut and we need to concentrate on the campaign ahead."
