Senegal vs Netherlands predictions and odds ahead of their Group A tie

The 2022 FIFA World Cup has begun and Group A favourites Netherlands face African Cup of Nations champions Senegal in their group stage opener. Many Premier League fans will be eager to see how PSV Eindhoven's Cody Gakpo will do on the main stage with the winger linked to a number of English sides.

Oranje are the favourites for this tie with Betfred putting them at 7/10 while the Lions of Teranga are 5/1 and a draw is 13/5. This is the first ever meeting between the two nations with the Dutch unbeaten against African opposition at the World Cup with three wins and a draw while Senegal have never lost to European opposition in three games either.

Senegal's head coach Aliou Cisse has a headache to deal with now that former Liverpool forward Sadio Mane has been ruled out of the competition with a tibia injury while Louis van Gaal will be looking for a plan B himself with Memphis Depay still yet to recover from his hamstring injury fully which he suffered against Poland back in September.
