Send us your family road trip photos

Have you been on a road trip with a family member? Do you have a photo that captures the experience? One that tells us where you're going, who you're going with. And why?

Alexander Payne's Nebraska has father and son Woody (Bruce Dern) and David (Will Forte) driving into the American heartland to cash in what Woody believes is a winning lottery ticket. It's a slow boil drama of familial tension, played out over miles and miles of wide, open road. Walt Whitman talked of the joy of travelling "Healthy, free, the world before me". Payne's travelers - a crabby alcoholic and his browbeaten son - have the latter at least.

The journey is the destination: for Woody and David the cliche rings true. The result is a film "laced with pathos, comedy and regret", according to Peter Bradshaw, who gave it a four-star review in Cannes this year. Payne's drama shows post-crash rural America, with all its pride and pain and visions of honour and duty.

To celebrate the release of the film we'd like you to send in your photos of you and a family member on the road. Tell us who's in the photo, where you're going and - most importantly - why. Was it a one-off trip? Or a regular journey? Did you enjoy it? Did it teach you anything about each other? Or yourself?
