Security guard attacked by robber who stole cash boxes from Percy Main Metro ticket machines

A robber who grabbed money boxes from a Metro ticket machine attacked a security guard who gave chase to him.

Shortly before 10.55am on Wednesday, police received a report of a robbery at Percy Main Metro station in North Tyneside.

About 10 minutes earlier, two men had been exchanging money boxes at one of the ticket machines and had been robbed by a man who grabbed two cash boxes before running off.

A security staff member managed to chase him and was able to take back one of the boxes before being assaulted by the man who then fled with the remaining box.

Officers are carrying out inquiries to identify those responsible and are now asking anyone with any information to get in touch with police.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that could help is asked contact police via 101 and quote reference number 276 30/10/19 or use the ‘Tell us something’ section on the police website.

Alternatively you can report via the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
