Security experts urge parents to think twice before posting back-to-school photos online

Security experts are urging parents to think twice before loading back-to-school photos of their children online.

It's normally a proud day and, after the long weeks of the summer holidays, many want to mark their child's first day or return to school with some photos.

But security experts are asking parents to be careful before sharing them online.

Back to school checklist

Experts have warned parents against sharing first day of school photos across their social media accounts, as 30 per cent of their online profiles are public - so anyone can see what they post.

In a study carried out by McAfee, it was revealed that more than half of parents who took part were afraid about paedophiles accessing images of their kids, MirrorOnline reports.

Some 35 per cent expressed their worry about kidnapping.

Chief scientist and Fellow at McAfee, Raj Samani, said: "Before proud parents share their children's 'first day' photos on social media, they must consider the potential consequences of what they post."

He added: "These sorts of images can be used to gather personal information such as school, location, a child’s full name, or even birth dates to paint a picture of who they are."
