Secunderabad: Over 1.5 lakh attend Ujjaini Mahankali procession

SECUNDERABAD: Teenmar beats reverberated in the streets, while ghatam processions and pothrajus added zing on the concluding day of Bonalu festivities in Secunderabad on Monday.

Over 1.5 lakh devotees took part in Ujjaini Mahankali’s ambari procession, which started from the temple around 12pm and culminated after three hours. For the procession, the state government specially brought in a tusker from a mutt in Hampi, Karnataka. Temple archakas kept a portrait of the goddess atop a decorated elephant. The procession meandered through Subhash Road, Monda Market Road, Alpha Hotel Road and Mettuguda Road. In view of the procession, traders en route downed their shutters and took part in the event.

Similar processions would also take part in Bonalu celebrations at Nalla Pochamma Temple, Karwan, on July 24, and Akkanna Madanna Temple, at Hari Bowli on July 26.

With this event, Lashkar Bonalu concluded peacefully. Old City would witness Bonalu festivities from July 24.
