Section of Lagan Towpath to be closed next week due to maintenance work

A short section of the Lagan Towpath will be closed from the start of next week, due to essential drainage work in the area around the Belfast Boat Club at Stranmillis.

The work will take place from Monday, June 22. It only affects a short stretch of the towpath, approximately 150 metres, between the entrance at Belfast Boat Club and the link from Sharman Road.

The Department of Infrastructure shared the news yesterday. They also indicated that a clearly signposted diversion would be in place for those making use of the towpath.

In a statement on Twitter, the Department said: "The Lagan Towpath will be closed for one week from Monday 22 June between its entrance at Belfast Boat Club and the link from Sharman Road (approx. 150m) for essential drainage work. A diversion will be clearly signposted via the upper path alongside the towpath."
