Seaside village hardly anyone visits voted the best in the UK

A seaside village which was voted the best in the UK is one where hardly anyone goes to.

Bamburgh overlooks Northumberland coast's Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The village has a historic castle, local heroine Grace Darling, the best seaside haunt and even the best sausage rolls and has now been voted the prettiest areas in the whole country, reports MyLondon.

A survey of 4,000 people earlier this year actually saw Bamburgh voted the best seaside spot in the UK and perfect for staycations.

For its sausage rolls, R. Carter & Son butchers have been open for business since 1887, when Robert and Mary Carter moved to the village.

In the family for four generations, Robert’s great-grandson Michael is currently at the helm and thousands travel to get their meaty treats.

Tourists will find products like the Bamburgh Banger, home cured bacon, Scotch pies, as well as their iconic sausage rolls.

Chef Rick Stein visited the butchers on his 2004 programme Food Heroes where he declared their Scotch pies his favourite hangover cure.

Yet people come from far and wide for Carter’s sausage rolls - made with their homemade bangers and puff pastry.

The village all has its imposing castle standing guard over the Northumberland coast and a great sight for tourists as the castle is also believed to be the site of Sir Lancelot’s mythical castle, Joyous Garde.

For Bamburgh Beach itself, there are long stretches of sand backed by the beach dunes of Sandy Hills.

Head up it North, you’ll find Stag Rock, named for the white stag painted on the rocks.

The Potted Lobster is a Michelin guide recommended restaurant and has won Tripadvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Award.

Imagine dishes such as whole lobster, Shetland mussels, a seafood platter for two, and to end your meal, a warm chocolate and salted caramel brownie with vanilla ice cream.

For a small village of only a few hundred people, Bamburgh is an impressive escape.
