Sean Seamer quits as Supercars boss

Less than a week after the Bathurst 1000, Sean Seamer has announced he's quitting as Supercars boss. (AAP)

Supercars boss Sean Seamer is quitting his post and will move to the United States next year.

Less than a week after the Bathurst 1000 season finale, Seamer informed staff on Thursday he intends to bow out after four years in charge.

James Warburton's replacement has navigated a tricky period for Australia's touring car series.

General Motors retiring the iconic Holden brand last year was a giant blow, with new Chevrolet Camaros to replace the Commodore on the grid for the 2023 season.

The last two years have been greatly affected by COVID-19, with numerous events cancelled or rescheduled.

New owners, a consortium led by Melbourne Entrepreneur Barclay Nettlefold, are also taking over.

"Given what we have achieved over the past four years and the calibre of the new ownership group, I feel comfortable that the business and the sport is in the very best of hands," Seamer said.

"The last two years have been tough for everyone, but with young kids, it's time for us to be closer to family.

"I will be taking up a new role in the US, details of which will be announced early in the new year.

"I will remain as CEO until the middle of next year and will remain on the board for the duration of 2022 to ensure a seamless transition and ongoing continuity."

Nettlefold hailed Seamer's contribution during a difficult period.

"Sean and I were looking forward to working together, but I completely appreciate his reasons for wanting to move," Nettlefold said.

"Sean's not going anywhere soon, and I will work with him and the board to ensure that we have the right successor in place for the Supercars team, our partners and our fans."
