Sean Mannion is distancing himself from Kyle Sloter in Vikings’ backup QB battle

As we entered 2019 Vikings training camp, the backup quarterback battle between Sean Mannion and Kyle Sloter looked intriguing.

So far, it looks like Mannion has distanced himself from Sloter. After splitting second-team reps with Sloter, Mannion is now taking all the second-team reps, while Sloter is now splitting third-team reps with Jake Browning, per Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press.

Mannion was probably the favorite heading into this battle, but it is somewhat surpising that he has distanced himself so much from Sloter this early.

This, of course, could all change. We have yet to play a preseason game. If Mannion struggles in preseason and Sloter shines, Sloter could win the job.

Sloter was impressive last preseason, finishing with a rating of 114.1 while completing 73.2 percent of his passes. He threw for 366 yards, four touchdowns and zero interceptions.

In three starts in preseason last year for the Rams, Mannion threw for 168 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions while completing just 52.2 percent of his passes.
