Sean Longstaff blasts Joelinton criticism as 'disgrace' after Manchester United performance

Sean Longstaff says Newcastle United would have been worthy winners against Manchester United - but feels the performance alone should boost the dressing room.

The midfielder returned to the fray as he replaced the suspended Isaac Hayden and will now hope to retain his place against Everton on December 30.

Speaking after the 1-1 draw, Longstaff said: "On the overall balance of the game I thought we deserved three points.

"We created a lot of chances - the most we've created for a long time.

"So it's a disappointed dressing room but we know we can put in performances like that and that's a massive boost.

"The manager said we created a lot of chances and played well and it's a performance to be proud of.

"We need to do that every week now.

"We know if we perform like that we'll pick up points"

Longstaff also hailed Joelinton's man of the match display as the £40million man dominated in the engine room.

Longstaff said: "We know how good Joelinton is and the disrespect he gets is a disgrace.

"Every day in training he's the best player and if you get him on your team in training you're buzzing because you'll always win.

"He's shown since the manager came in what he's been like in training. Everyone at the club rates him so highly.

"The noise from outside is so disrespectful and if you watch him enough you see how good he is.

"I'm so happy for him and proud of him."
